Kick Fever Fitness – Fidget Yourself Thin

Ever wonder why some people never gain weight, even though they wolf down huge portions of food and never watch what they eat?

While there’s always the question of having a high metabolism, the answer may actually lie in their inability to sit still. Constant fidgeting actually increases daily calorie expenditure and prevents weight gain.

Too good to be true? Not according to researchers from the Mayo Clinic. They placed motion-sensing devices in the underwear of 10 normal-weight and 10 obese adults in order to monitor their total daily movements, and thus their extra calorie expenditure. The purpose of this odd-sounding experiment was to determine whether people who fidget a lot burn a significant enough amount of calories each day to keep themselves slim.

According to the study results, the obese individuals spent an average of two additional hours sitting still compared to the normal weight individuals, who, as a group, burned an extra 350 calories a day. Failing to burn these extra calories every day could increase body fat by 10 pounds in just one year, said the Mayo Clinic researchers.

So what are you waiting for? If you’re sitting still, get moving and fidget yourself thin!
